College courses taken so far:
Freshmen year (fall):
- Anthropology 31 ( Mexican and Chicano Culture ): Anthropology 31 was my first college course and it was indeed pretty tough. Professor. Orozco required a lot of reading for class, countless scholarly articles and online blogs. This course was definitely a wake up call because it was basically up to me to work hard for the "A" because the tests were the only grades in the class.
- History 30 ( History of Mexico ): History 30 was also a challenging course that I took with Professor. Orozco, just like Anthropology 31 this course required a lot of reading and studying. The class itself was interesting because I was able to learn the history of Mexico.
Freshmen year (spring):
- Dance 21B ( Dance History: Spectacles and Performance ): Dance 21B was a course that I took in order to meet my performing arts requirements. This course was really fun though because Professor. Macgee was always in a good mood and she had so much energy (60 years old). From what I realized from this class is that if you really love your career, then you should always have energy for your job
- English 1A ( Reading and Composition ): English 1A at the time was my hardest college course ever! Dr. Pisano is brilliant man who taught the class powerful skills and concepts that can be used to support an argument. I really enjoyed this course because of the works that Dr. Pisano required us to read and argue about such as Ernest Hemingway, Aristotle, and Plato.
- English 900 ( Writing Center Lab ): I had to take this English lab course because it was required if enrolled in English 1A. This lab course was a fairly easy class since class was only once a week and an hour long. The only assignments from this course were journals, which were due every week.
- Geology 12 ( Physical Oceanography ): Oceanography was an awesome course, thanks to Dr. Shadman! In Oceanography I was able to learn so much about our oceans and their history. Also I was able to learn how earthquakes happen and how to properly read a world map. I really enjoyed this class with Dr. Shadman and would definitely recommend my peers to take it to satisfy their physical science requirements.
- Math 125 ( Beginning Algebra ): Mathematics is by far the subject the I struggle the most on. However, Dr. Diaz is an excellent instructor who taught the concepts of algebra very well, much better than my previous math teachers. Thanks to Dr. Diaz i was able to receive an "A" in the course, which is something that I would of have not expected on the first day of class.
Sophomore year (fall):
- Math 131 ( Intermediate algebra ): I took Math 131 with Dr. Diaz also, this was after he recommended that I enroll in his class because I had prior success in Math 125. Although Math 131 was more challenging than 125 I was able to grasp the materials of polynomial factoring, improved my graphing skills and was able to understand word problems a lot better than I used to.
- Philosophy 25 ( Introduction to Critical Thinking ): Philosophy 25 is easily one of the hardest courses that I have taken at Pasadena City College. Dr. Rogacs is a very smart professor who assigned a lot of reading and writing assignments. The skills that I obtained after taking this course are improvement in my persuasive writing and also the ability to distinguish the fallacies in an argument.
- Political Science 001 ( Introduction to Political Science ): Political Science 001 was a fairly easy course. Professor. Scandler only had class every two weeks on Tuesday nights. The course was a hybrid, so a lot of the assignments for the class were due online through turnitin. There was a lot of reading involved but it was very straight forward, just like the exams.
- Sociology 001 (Introduction to Sociology): I had fun in sociology because the lectures of Dr. Bustillos always seemed to fascinate me. He is very smart man who was able to turn his life around after he was arrested, which serves as a great inspiration story. After completing sociology I as able to view the world from a whole different prospective, which is awesome but sad at the same time because I realized that racism, inequality, and discrimination are still present in our society.
- Theater 7B ( Contemporary Film History ): If I had to describe this course with one word only then it would be "entertaining". Contemporary film history was a very fun course because Dr. Halllinger had an awesome lineup of films, I was able to watch and analyze some of the most iconic films in history such as: The Godfather, Forest Gump, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and Some Like it Hot.
Sophomore year (Spring):
- Anthropology 1 ( Physical Anthropology ): Thanks to Dr. Coltman, Physical Anthropology was an awesome course. I was able to learn about the process of evolution and how animals adapt to their environments. However, the concept of how humans evolved through history is what really fascinated me. I really enjoyed this course and hope to take more anthropology courses in the near future.
- Biology 11 ( General Biology ): By far, biology 11 was my favorite course that I took during the spring semester. Dr. Rodriguez is a very hands on professor who makes concepts understandable for all her students. I had a lot of fun learning about DNA, heart disease, diabetes, photosynthesis and many more concepts and ideas. Lab days in this course are always interesting and at times challenging because you have the opportunity to put what you've learn in lecture and readings into practice.
- Speech 001 ( Fundamentals of Speech): I really enjoyed this speech course because it allowed me to improve my public speaking skills. I was able to give an informative speech, process speech, and a persuasive speech in this class. I believe that being able to speak confidently is key in order to have a successful career, I am glad to say that speech 001 help me gain confidence in my public speaking skills.
- Stats 50 ( Elementary Statistics): Stats 50 is the last course that I have to take in order to meet my general education requirements for math. The majority of this course focuses on probability questions, which are fun to work out. After taking this course I improved my math skills and can apply them more to daily life, such as what is the probability of me winning the lottery.
